In the first half of the 20th century, air conditioning was still a luxury household item only found in commercial buildings in the US.

A village in the Allandale area, a suburb of Austin, was fortunate to be chosen as a pilot location for a new housing model called Austin Air Conditioned Village.

18 units have built 22 test houses, with areas ranging from 90 – 140 m2.

Construction companies try countless different technologies and structures from heat-resistant walls, white roofs, roofing systems, ventilation doors, ventilation fans or new insulation materials… Meter systems

Problems that arise include machines shaking when operating, clothes drying systems without ventilation pipes, sunlight direction, lack of plants… However, thanks to air conditioning, families spend a lot of time together.

First of all, every house has air conditioning

The village of Allandale shaped a booming era for the air conditioning market in the United States.

Although today it is not as famous as it was in the 1950s, the air-conditioned village still exists.

As a testament to the superior technology of the American construction industry, very few houses in the village had to be renovated or were destroyed.

Some air conditioning systems even run well for decades.

The original houses of the air conditioning village are located along Twin Oaks, Daugherty, Park View, and Nasco streets… Because this is still a residential area, visitors should only look at the houses from the street to avoid trouble.
