The worst of the Covid-19 pandemic in China has passed, Catherine Zheng still remembers how much it scared her.
The extent of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic continues to be demonstrated by the constantly increasing death rate among people infected with the virus.
Reading news about Covid-19 in mass media can lead to depression, anxiety and stress, according to a survey of 3,070 social media users in China.
Experts concluded that the more users immersed themselves in stories about Covid-19 on social networks, the more severe their stress and anxiety became.
Chinese people wear masks on a subway train.
Zheng believes this is completely true in her case.
`The massive, uncontrolled reception of information about the pandemic makes people unable to focus on anything else,` Zheng said.
Also according to research, mainland people are spending a lot of time reading news about Covid-19.
Most of them use smartphones.
Zheng doesn’t remember how much time she spent reading news about the pandemic, but it became her habit every time she scrolled through WeChat.
`Social media has enormous power in controlling people’s minds because its spread is extremely powerful,` she said.
In fact, many previous studies have shown that the pandemic has negative effects on mental health as well.
