Salt Mountain belongs to the Bach Moc Luong Tu range, which is the natural boundary between Lai Chau and Lao Cai provinces.
There are two climbing routes for you to choose from, one is from Ky Quan San village, Sang Ma Sao commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, the other is from Den Sung village, Sin Sui Ho commune, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province.

Day one: Hanoi – Sa Pa
It will take you about 4 hours for the Hanoi – Sa Pa route if you catch a sleeper bus at bus stations such as My Dinh, Giap Bat and go on the highway.

Day two: Sa Pa – O Quy Ho (8km) – Muong Hum (35km) – Sang Ma Sao (6km)
5:00 am: Have breakfast, rent a motorbike in Sa Pa town.
7am: Depart by motorbike for 8km to O Quy Ho village, turn right onto Provincial Road 155 to Xeo village, go to Muong Hum market and turn to People’s Committee of Sang Ma Sao commune.
9am: Go to Sang Ma Sao Commune People’s Committee.
10am: Park your motorbike and start climbing from Ky Quan San village.
The initial climbing path was a path, crossing fields and then following the villagers’ route to produce cardamom.
For lunch, prepare only dry foods such as sandwiches and canned foods.
6:00 p.m.: Arrive at the campsite.
Winter, when the cold and dryness makes you uncomfortable, is also the best time for you to have interesting mountain climbing trips.
Day three: Climb to the top of Salt Mountain
4:30 a.m.: Get up, prepare to boil water and cook noodles for breakfast.
5am: Depart to the top of Salt Mountain to watch the sunrise.
8am: You will reach the top of Salt Mountain at an altitude of 2800 m.
10am: Quickly depart down the mountain if you don’t want to sleep another day in the forest.
5:00 p.m.: Leave the forest and return to Ky Quan San village.
20:00: Return to Sapa.
Bach Moc Luong Tu Discovery Palace from Lai Chau
In addition to climbing to the top of Bach Moc Luong Tu from Ky Quan San village, Lao Cai province, people also have another option from the direction of Ban Den Sung, Lai Chau province.
Day one: Hanoi – Lai Chau.
Take the sleeper bus at night to Lai Chau city.
Day two: Lai Chau – Den Sung
Take a motorbike taxi to Den Sung village, or take a taxi to Sin Sui Ho commune and then take a motorbike taxi to Den Sung village.
Day three: Climb to the top of Bach Moc Luong Tu
Climb to Bach Moc peak and then rest near the top of Muoi mountain
Day 4: Down the mountain, back to Sapa.
Go down the mountain towards Ky Quan San village, hire villagers to take you back to Sapa.

The weather in the mountains is very cold, you need to prepare lots of clothes, towels, gloves, socks, sleeping bags, thermal patches and insulating mats to sleep on.
Only bring lightweight food, avoid carrying too much, eat only dry food for lunch, do not cook to save time.
It is mandatory to climb to the resting point, which are pre-built camps of foresters, in a flat, wind-tight place and especially with a nearby water source.
Climb the mountain steadily, focus on your breathing and try to get really tired before resting.
