Hau, 23 years old, recently accepted a quality supervisor position at a company in Ho Chi Minh City.
Hau is a former student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
Hau also doesn’t save money even though he earns well, this guy doesn’t even care about getting married or buying a house.
Instead, this guy talks about the roads with a distant look: `I want to save everything to go on the road. When my job is stable, I will take a year off to explore the world: Paris, London.`
Every month, Hau earns 9 million VND, while the salaries of both Hau’s parents are only 10 million VND.
`My family has a small farm of about 2 hectares, they grow lemons and coconuts. Selling lemons doesn’t earn much, after deducting money for fertilizers and pesticides. My father is a truck driver. He often goes to work.
Despite a difficult life, Hau’s parents still managed to send their child to 4 years of schooling, graduating from the Industrial Management Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
To support her parents, Hau also works part-time as a bartender and tutor.
When asked if he sends money to his parents every month, Hau shyly said: `I go backpacking and hang out with friends, so I don’t have enough money to send home. But I also plan to send one million home every month.`
Hau always tries to return to Dong Thap to visit his family every month.
Revealing his spending style, Hau said living in Ho Chi Minh City is not cheap.
Hau spent about 800,000 VND for entertainment needs.
In the midst of Saigon, countless small shops and large shopping centers have sprung up with slogans inviting customers `Buy! Buy! Buy!`, Hau represents a contrary trend that is prevailing globally.
A study by Harris Group shows that about 78% of young people around the world choose to spend money on experiences, instead of shopping.
Faced with the global fever for growth and consumption, today’s young generation wants to `do` more than simply `make money`.
Hau shared her desire to travel often.
Even after having a full-time job, backpacking is still at the top of Hau’s plans.
Hau also thought about other career directions: `I want to have the opportunity to work abroad, like Bangkok or Singapore. But I have to go back, I want to return home. When I retire, I will return to my hometown..
Young people like Hau consider backpacking an essential thing, an experience they must do to feel young and full of energy.
Hau, an optimistic guy, is still skeptical about his future.
